So we just got a notice in the mail today about a toyota recall for the ECM on Andrea's matrix.

Some might remember that I had to replace the ECM in her car back in May and wasn't very happy about it. There was a TSB on it back then but since the car had more than 80k on it toyota wouldn't replace it for free. Now it seems they will but we have already done this.

Will car companies pay for parts that you were forced to replace before a recall was issued??

VW had a recent recall for the coil-packs for their vr6 engines. The way they have handled it is if you replaced the part at your cost with the new updated part before the recall then you are SOL...I don't agree but that's the way they have done it so far.

Luckily the PO didn't have issues and I had the recall done for free.

Good luck and don't settle on just one dealer's call/perspective.

Yep/Nope,

Yep as I mean you are probably screwed, as nope they won't do it. I had a CPS go out on my 1997 F-250 go out in 2008. A few months after it left me stranded on the side of the road and luckily I figured it out on my own and replaced it in the parking lot I coasted into for 100 dollars (minus the 80 tow ride and the who knows how much they would have raped me for to do it themselves).

Sure enough, 2 months later they came out with a recall and wanted me to come in and replace it with the new updated sensor as the previous sensor was known to fail causing complete engine and electrical failure and had caused serious accidents, fires and even death. I went back in with the letter and the reciept I had showing I replaced it 2 months early and they said F^%K OFF. Have to love the customer service in FayettNAM.

What I would do (even though it is not my style) is bitch and complain and be THAT GUY and they will be so tired of dealing with you (especially managers because they are all pushovers) that they will take care of it. It woudl help if you tried to look bigger than you already are and get that yetti beard grown out to help your case :)

Good luck.

the rear hatch struts went out on our odyssey. i bought new ones, then 6 months later honda issued a recall, I sent them the recepit, they promptly send me a check for the full amount.

I guess thats the difference between honda and ford.

See this is why I ask.
I think doing dealerships is a bad deal. My buddy had a recall issued on a part on his F350 5 years after he fixed it and Ford (company, not dealership) gave him the money back. I didn't know if that was just a fluke or normal. Seems like there is only one other person on here that got their money back so those might be the exceptions.

There is a number on it and i'll give them a call. I also got to call Fred Anderson to get a copy of my receipt as Andrea threw it away.

Toyota sent me a check for 400 after I replaced the ac evaparator on a 91 fj80. They had issued a recall however they did not have me as the new owner. Call up with vin and ask for a refund.

I've received a couple of notices for the "Steering Relay Rod" recall on my 4Runner. I thought about taking it in to see what they'd say when they tried to replace it and found out that I'd already kinda replaced it myself. :D
