hi all

any pointers or documentation on rebuilding / servicing stock mechanical fuel pump? ( 1964 fj40 )

PO installed an electric pump...
He gave me the original pump and said it was fine, but i thought i should service or clean it before reinstalling it.

Any pointers would be appreciated :D

I can take photos if needed or helpful.

I did buy a new toyota mechanical fuel pump, but for whatever reason the arm from the pump is larger than the original, and if installed would easily clunk into the engine block.

Just realized this may all be for naught since i do not have a seal /diaphram kit for a rebuild...
Unless the seals from the new one fit...

I should prolly call american toyota and see if they still make them...
Any one have a part number for a rebuild kit? :D

My fuel pump might actually be f25 pump, a lot of the parts on the motor are marked f25, like the manifold etc...
 
I don't think the rebuild kits are available. I bought a later pump and it fit fine. I used one of the old fuel line fittings. I think I got it at toyota, i'd have to look. I didn't have to change the block spacer but I measured the length of the arm to make sure it was the same as the old one.

SO a block spacer might be needed to use the new pump>?
Or is it just the incorrect pump?
The arms are definitely different sizes.

On a different note - since you mentioned the fitting - (sorry destin)

Thought I read somewhere about the old fittings being hard to find or mate to??? Saving the old fitting with inches of original line
attached seemed to be the thing to do so you could mate the original line to something instead of the fitting to new line.....?.....

I bought a Kyosan pump , but it lever that extends into the block is too long.

I should snap a shot of the old one and the new one to show you the difference.

Also, the old pump might work, The previous owner included it in the box of original parts he replaced.
Do the old pumps go bad if they have been sitting?

( believe it or not the different shape and arm shape between the original and the new one makes a difference.


The new one clunks into the case on revolution.

How am i going to replace the diapram and seals if there are no replacement kits?
Or are other other manufacturers kits generic enough to rebuild the original>?

it`s shown in the video scan the old ones & cut your own Sir. ;)
What do you think guys with real vintage cars do ...

Would try the pump first, may be she works fine, if not cut, cut, cut and replace the seals and the diaphram. ;)

just doing rough calc on the computer those arms look the same as far as depth. I only used a gasket on mine. The old one is different and I'm not familiar with it. Maybe someone else here is.

Looks like i am gonna clean and dismantle this sunday...
Might wait if i cannot find a shop open with gasket materials.

Are there any major warnings that are communicated verbally in german that would not be readily apparent visually?

Check out my image, that is the bit that is different, and causes the arm to tap the block on engine revolution. I was describing it poorly previously sorry :D

b) no major warnings ... ( your diaphram materials must be for fuel pumps !! )

I dunno, I have the same block and same pump, works fine. I don't think thats an oem pump and the dimensions are some what arbitrary in the pic. THe main thing you should be worried about is the depth of the arm but for that pump on f and earlier 2f (up to 79) you don't need a spacer. Have you actually run the pump on the motor?
