rebuilding / servicing stock mechanical fuel pump

I dunno, I have the same block and same pump, works fine. I don't think thats an oem pump and the dimensions are some what arbitrary in the pic. THe main thing you should be worried about is the depth of the arm but for that pump on f and earlier 2f (up to 79) you don't need a spacer. Have you actually run the pump on the motor?

hiya

I did not try to install it myself ( after my failed attempt to rebuild and tune the carb properly, I brought it to a mechanic that specialize in landcruisers ).
The mechanic/owner said the pump arm did not clear the case properly ( too wide at the base, you can see the difference if you look at the alignment of the bolt pattern )
Maybe the pump I have ( stock ) is from an fj25?
Alot of the other parts are marked that way...

I will ask the mechanic again this week to verify, but I do not see why he would misinform me, but you never know :)

Hi Destin,
must be possible to change the pump arms if that`s the problem,
I think ;)...
..but would try both pumps first if they fit.

Fuel pump Specter sells are 1958-12/78...means no difference between 25`s and 40`s.

Right on :)

Maybe the mechanic was making a assumption based on sight alone hehe.
I will chat with him next week and find out what's what :)

Does your old pump look like mine?

Thanks man

To echo what the others have said:

The new replacement pump you have pictured will fit, it needs the longer bolts. Depending on where the cam lobe is when being installed it may "feel" like it doesn't fit.

The old pump is not a Kyosan, and it doesn't look like a Nikki (maybe a real 25 expert who has one can compare). I'd bet it's a Chevy fuel pump for a 216/235, see if there are any markings on it.

Rebuild kits are no longer available from Toyota for the stock fuel pump.

Looks like the chevy one for sure :)

Cool thanks guys, i will chit chat with the mechanic and asses what's what.
Maybe it was the cam lobe position when installed that threw him off, but you would think he would know better :)

I have the new bolts for the new pump, so no worries there :)

Thanks again guys, you have been a great help!

I may have an extra one floating around that came off my 65. The PO changed it but said nothing was wrong with it.

Does it have the little hand pump on it? dibs if so :D

The hand pump lever is cool. I am using a pump with one on my FJ45 that Marv Specter dug out for me himself.

I haven't had occasion to need the hand pump, (unlike the hand crank).

This is a spare, with a leaky diaphragm, which I will now be able to repair thanks to Mr. Greenspan.

Thanks, Sir!

:D Same here, along with some other unobtainium. :D

I use it often. One of my 25 carbs leaks down after a week or so, and they usually sit much longer than that. Couple strokes with the primer to fill the bowl, one pump of the pedal, and it fires up instantly.
