I'm in the process of rebuilding my 76 cruiser front axle. I admit I know nothing about this setup so I need to know the best way to do it and any tips or tricks along the way. One thing I was wondering is if the gear oil is supposed to go out to the wheel bearings or if they are packed w/ grease. When I pulled it apart, it was full of gear oil, right to the wheel bearings. Is this normal ? Another thing, what are the brass bushings at the end of the axle tubes called ( the ones that have the grooves in them) ? Does anyone have an exploded view of the axle ?

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanx

Cody:
There should be an axle seal at the end of the axle tube, inside the knuckle that will keep the diff fluid from migrating to the knuckle and also the knuckle should be packed with grease.

Best regards

Gord

70-Series Tech Tech assistance for the 70- thru 79-series Land Cruisers.
Sorry for not posting in the proper area. I mean, it is from the 70's . My bad, I misunderstood how it was setup.
Where is the best place to get a service manual ?

Aussie ebay usually has a 40/45/55 series body manual each week for peanuts.
There was some online procedures with pics of front axle rebuilds.
The 40 series forum can help probably
