I am planning on rebuilding the 2f in an fj60 and I was quoted 650.00 labor to rebuild. I have never had an engine rebuilt, is this a good price for labor or do I need to keep shopping?

Thanks,

Gary

Sounds like a great price to me..

Yea, I'd be all over it. Have you sourced parts? Price on those?

Have not sourced the parts yet. I was going to let the mechanic get a price and see. Any ideas where to get them?

Thanks,

Gary

For that kind of price I wonder if he knows what he is up for and if he will do a good job. Think parts could add up depending on what you need..$500-1000. I am guessing for $650 he has not rebuilt one before.

That is a deal. Make sure he uses all Toyota parts.I would get the parts from cruiserdan. OEM for the engine.

I assume that labor does not include parts.

for the labor along that is still a great deal

knowledgeable?

Be sure the guy knows what he is doing. I have been through a lot of unnecessary trouble with a machinist who didn't know how to rebuild (two different motors!). One thing for sure, don't screw that timing gear oiler too far so that it sticks out the back of the timing plate. Oil leak city! Also, replace the little oil plug on the right side of the head with a threaded plug, particularly if you tank the engine. Watch out for soft plugs; there are some that you cannot get to without pulling the engine again.

Yes labor only. He is working on getting prices on parts. He is very stand up guy and I have no doubt in his abilities. He has done various work for me in the past and I have never had a problem. He has worked on 2f engines before.

Thanks,

Gary

It's a really good price. These engines resemble a chevy straight and there is nothing complicated about them. If I was you I would also look into prices on parts. Try not to put any tiawan parts in it. I think I paid 750 for labor on mine here in San Antonio.

the PO of my 40 payeds 6K to have the 2f rebuild, it only lasted 28,000 miles, good job Wimberly!!
