Dumbass move of the day for sure. My elation of having my rear window fixed a few weeks ago went right down the s***ter when it quit wanting to go down. Goes up just fine but not down. I found broken wire where the tailgate hinges with truck body (light blue one), did some splicing and got it back together and I did note another wire frayed at the hinge point which I feel is my problem now. The big problemo now is while using spare battery to lower windshield down to lower tailgate I let it down too far and now can't reach the alligator clips to attach to the up wires on motor.

Anyone have any reasonable remedies to get my window back out to work on this mess? I have disassembled the wiring AGAIN so after pondering I can't figure an easy way out here.

Can you reach the L clips that hold the window and window channel to the regulator arms? Best bet is to push/pull those with a long screwdriver so the windo can be removed completely. You may need to pull the window felt to have enough space for the channel to fit through the opening though.

Actually I was able to feed small wire with small hook at end through the top. Once I made contact with the motor window up connection I applied small amount of traction to maintain a little contact. Tapped other end of wire to battery since my grounding clip was still attached and the window promptly came out of the tailgate.

Took a few minutes of serious concentration and I need a nap now but saved what I think would have been ass load of work.

Figure this may be my intermittent short, anyone with electrical knowledge share same thoughts or am I reaching. It is the wire for bringing the glass down. Either way it needs to be repaired.

I pulled all the wires from the terminal in the tailgate then fed them through a piece of 6” lung rubber tubing so that any rubbing in that area is absorbed by the tubing and not the wires.

The last few days while working on this i have been pondering how to prevent this from being a problem moving forward and yours is an excellent idea!
However prior to closing the tailgate i did wrap it in electrical tape but after couple times it quit going down.

Alright, I throw my hands up. Took some wire off the donor pig, removed frayed part shown in the pics above. No go trying to roll window down. My next step in my mind would be to look at the switch on the dash to make sure that's not my culprit. Anyone else have any suggestions, seems kinda basic until it ain't!

Does the tailgate work?

EDIT... Does the tailgate KEY work? Sorry about that.

Nope figured it was broken first time I went to work on it and was too lazy to remove the entire mechanism again. Figured if dash worked like it did I could get by.

I think it might be time to break out the multi-meter and check for continuity at the dash switch. Make sure the tailgate safety switch gives you continuity when closed.
Check the circuit breaker as well, then start checking the wires across the tailgate hinge

Have to work next couple days but this weekend I will attack it again. Appreciate the wiring diagrams everyone has posted. Very helpful

Over the last 3-4 weeks I have rolled the tailgate window up/down plus lowered the actual tailgate sooooooo many times trying to get all the kind worked out. 1) I adjusted the bars for the “star” side releases to get the closure tight 2) moved the side body attached mechanisms in as far as possible then widened the actual holes to allow further adjustment 3) opened up the tailgate safety switch to make the connections connect sooner and 4) several other small things. I finally have it working from the dash and tailgate key so that is a success. Now I feel the tailgate is so heavy when lowering or raising I am concerned the torsion bar finally gave up after 100’s of opens/closes. How heavy should the tailgate feel?

I am like Clark Griswold checking the lights over and over. Just got back from quick recheck in shop to see if the window wiring healed itself....nope.

*2 on checking the safety switch. The plastic piece that contacts it can move (at least mine did) and stop the switch from 'closing', if that circuit is open, nothing happens.
