I am replacing virtually every rubber hose in the engine compartment This part of my getting consumables up to new spec. I hate cracked hoses or hoses that are going to crack soon. Since the LX has a myriad of vacuum and coolant hoses.. they are all going to be new even if I have any skin left on my fingers!

Which brings to replacing the rear coolant hose on the throttle body. Of course the end at the body is mere child's play. But the other end at what appears to be the block.. how in the heck do you get to the clamp to even start the process??? I can't even see the clamp.. I can feel it so I know roughly were it terminates. I have looked underneath.. down from every angle at the top and pulled the inner fender well skirts up and no dice!

So if anyone has any kind of suggestion besides pulling the engine or completely removing the intake assembly.. I am all ears!

its on the head ... very conveniently located - the third in line from back to front: EGR pipe, then PHH, then coolant line to throttle body.

incidentally ... mine I found very recently to be in excellent shape

The bottom end is just to the left of the PHH. You access it through the driver's side wheel well. The top is easily accessed if you remove the throttle body. After I removed the top, I pulled the hose down through the wheel well and yanked real hard. The hose came out with the clamp attached. Installing it was easier.

Did this the second day I owned my rig....it busted so I didn't really have a choice.

Jack up the front a small bit and crank the wheel to the right. Have a buddy, or somehow secure a very bright light pointing down in the area of the hose. You might have to secure the light in the engine bay unless you have someone holding it.

Climb underneath and weave your hand up near the PHH until you can reach the clamp of the throttle body hose with long needle nose pliers/small regular plier. You'll get pissed using one after a while and you'll switch to the other. You'll do this for an hour or so using a lot of unsavory words until you finally pull that PITA hose loose.

Biggest part of this is locating the clamp on the hose and figuring out how to get a good grip on that Toyota clamp. And forget reusing the original clamp. Grab some new hose clamps from AutoZone etc. Also, I was in a real pinch when I did mine so I was forced to use some Gates heater hose instead of the OEM hose. No issues.

This is a :censor: of a job. Helps if you have someone to help. Good luck :flipoff2:

Death Stars process sounds easier....top first then weave it down and yank the hell out of it until it pops off. Where was this advice when I did mine :slap:

Take the front driver's side wheel off and put the front axle on jackstands. It's a lot easier that way. I wouldn't go yanking on a house with a clamp on it.
