I sustained some damage to the drivers side rear frame/suspension descending Engineer Pass yesterday. Seems pretty serious - the bracket that holds the leaf spring bushing was all but torn off and the frame looks like it crinkled on the bottom there. Any suggestions on how to proceed? ... I saw a rust free FJ60 frame on Craigslist recently...

Man that's ugly. It's all the way thru huh?
Might be wise to grab that frame.

Yeah it's pretty ugly. I'm going to take it to a frame shop to see about fixing the crinkle. If they say it's do-able, I'm thinking the Ruff Stuff weld-on spring hangers ($33) will do the job.

Happened to me in 2009. Frame is full of mud/gunk, holds the water in, frame rots from the inside out. If that side collapsed, the other side isn't far behind. Repair both sides while at the frame shop.

I would say your best bet for repair would be as you said, get the Ruffstuff hangers, and cut that section out.

Several frame shops refused to work on it, I think they prefer working on simpler projects and getting paid by insurance companies, or maybe I went to the wrong shops.
Anyhow I got some help from a friend with a MIG to hold it together, and I'm buying that spare frame on craigslist. My current frame is now on life support

That's what I ended up doing too. Patch it back together for now, then plan on changing the frame out as soon as you can.

Sucks, but rust is life :(
