image.webp Hi:
Lately I feel like the rear end is bottoming out on bumps, with no excessive load in the car. The attached picture shows the spring the way it sits with the car on flat ground. It almost feels like the bump stop gap is quite small. Is this a sign that I need new springs?

Thanks for the advice, as always

Measure from the fender lip to the center of the wheels, all four corners, and post up. That will give other forum members sufficient information on how your suspension is sitting to provide advice.

Just for reference, I replaced the springs on my 98 lx with 130k (that had an easy life before me). The old springs were 2" shorter than the new. Ride was okay, but wouldn't go into high with light/medium load.

My 2006 does this - actually did it when I got it with 40,000 miles. There are a couple speed humps, that if I hit just right - like 25 mph - the truck will bottom out as the back wheels clear the hump. It does this empty - not even the 3rd row in place. I just assumed the newer 100s were getting soft as they adapted to the US market... running boards, fender appliqués, faux wood grains... less about the Serengeti, more about the "Mom, come and get me".

Ok, so finally got around to doing this. The distance from the fender lip to the center of the bub is:

Front 19 1/4 inches
Rear 20 1/24

Does this help?

Thanks

My stock truck is 19.5" front and 19.75" rear measured center of hub to fender. It's a 2003 w/115k with what I assume to be original springs/shocks.

Mine was doing the same thing when i bought it last year. Finally had enough of it sitting on the axle when loaded with anything I bought some OME springs to replace them. Now I have no issues with it bottoming out as a regular thing.

Which OME springs did you buy? Does it lift the back up over stock?

Thanks

I bought the OME 2860 which if I remember correctly is a 2 or 2.5 inch lifting spring and medium load. I cranked the T-bars to level the front out. But it's a great ride and my bump stops don't sit on my axle anymore with all the tools and a stroller in the back.

Ok, so I decided to try something else first. I had replaced my Bilstein's at 180K. Replacement shocks were Monroe Reflex. Just replaced all 4 with new Bilstein's, and what can I say, except, such a huge difference in dampening. Truck is almost back to where it was 100K miles ago. Learned lessons, Bilsteoin shocks do soften up over use, and nothing like Blue and Yellow!! Love my Billy's!
