I'm about to replace the rear spring coils on my 2006 model and got the purple AHC OEM parts from toyota themselves. I've heard online that one side should have a longer coil than the other, but i've now got the coils themselves their both the same size. The part number on both of them is 48231-6A770, is this right or did the dealer give me two of the same side?

On my 06 lx, I used 06 landcruiser ahc springs. Two part numbers. One slightly longer. This can be seen on online parts seller diagrams.

There is a difference between Left Hand Drive Land Cruisers with AHC and Right Hand Drive Land Cruisers with AHC. It is said that this is because there is more driver and fuel weight on the left side of Left Hand Drive models and apparently this needs some pre-load to compensate, which is done with slightly different spring lengths (+15 millimetres on the Left?), defined by different Part Numbers.

In the case of my Australian-delivered Right Hand Drive June 2006 Land Cruiser Sahara with AHC, the original springs came off the vehicle in October 2019 at 192,465 kilometres (119,592 miles). The springs on both sides were a bit soft, past their best, but still maintained the original free length of 485 millimetres when off the vehicle, same for both sides. Both springs still had the same distinguishing purple paint marking.

After a conversation with a knowledgeable local Toyota parts guy, also cross-checking by using my VIN at amayama.com (Japan), megazip.com (Singapore) and partsouq.com (UAE), and after looking at other similar vehicles, the correct replacement springs for my vehicle were confirmed to be Part Number 48231-6A770 rear coil springs with a purple paint mark, same length, same spring on both sides.

As you are in London, presumably with a Right Hand Drive vehicle, it seems more likely than not that your rear springs on your AHC-equipped vehicle also are Part Number 48231-6A770, same on both sides, similar to Australian-delivered vehicles. You may wish to double-check this by taking your VIN to another dealer, or use the VIN to explore Part Numbers with reputable on-line suppliers.

It seems possible that Left Hand Drive vehicles in Europe, Gulf Cooperation Countries (GCC), Russia, etc also may have slightly different Left and Right rear springs, similar to USA.

In my case, I decided to upgrade to the well-known KING KTRS-79 springs which are made in Australia. These use a slightly thicker bar and increase the 'spring rate' from about 95 pounds per inch of deflection for the OEM-with-AHC springs to about 130 pounds per inch of deflection for the KTRS-79 springs. There definitely is only one part number, one size and one length for KTRS-79 springs which are sold in pairs, even when exported to USA and elsewhere for use on Left Hand Drive LX470 and LC100 with AHC.

You can see some differences in the specifications for OEM Left and Right springs on the Left Hand Drive vehicles with AHC at Post #165 at the following thread -- it has links which lead to spring details at Toyota USA and Lexus USA websites:
