does anyone know how the rear spoiler effects aerodynamics?
is it there to force air down the back window to help clear the rain?
or is it there to reduce turbulance?

i could fire up a big fan in the drive way and set a smoke bomb off as a cheap wind tunnel, but i'm already on bad terms with the neighbors.

Dunno but if anyone has one for sale please PM me. (Sorry to bastardize your thread)

I think its "suppose" to help keep the rear window clean ..... however, its never seemed to work on anyones that I know

Luckily I dont have to worry about that, no rack and no deflector out back :D

On a side note, that deflector appears to be much too small to provide any kind of aerodynamic effect on such a large/heavy vehicle.

Uhhhh...... Land Cruiser and "aerodynamics" definitely do not go hand in hand.

It's supposed to deflect rain and whatever else off the rear window, but what it actually does is look like s***.

Endless, i've gotta give you credit bro, taking your cruiser in a totally different direction than most. Cool. It looks really fast.

Ya see .. thats where the net sucks . That sentence is almost completely lost without being able to 'hear' your tone ... :D

the wind delfector is actually effective at keepign the rear cleaner, I took mine off for a week or so and in that time tons of road dust got kicked up on the rear, I plan to seal the feet on to prevent any rust problems and paint the deflector body to match the paint

I, for one more time (and another, and another...you get the idea), stand up to my deflector (since I installed it myself), that it serves its intended purpose. Ofcourse, if it's supposed to keep ALL the dirt/water/snow out of the rear hatch, then there should NOT be a wiper in the rear!!!

and I'll chime in on the fact that the deflector works. I had a '94 with one and...well...I just didn't know any better -- the window seemed clean enough. I assumed it worked.

Now, my current rig doesn't have the deflector -- and that rear window gets dirty as heck.

I think it looks dumb as heck, but it does indeed serve a function.

I really like the look of the one EnDLesS has on his. Looks simiar to the ones on the newer Sequoias and 4th gen 4-Runners.

Doug, you are dead to me! ;p

Hmmmmm, well, it seems the deflector works for some and not for others.

I still think they look crappy and flimsy compared to the rest of truck and since I already have the wiper back there to clean it, I'll keep the clean look back there.

that's my 3rd death... :D

Fellas, i say take it off that way when your PHH blows, the coolant will splash up on your rear glass and you will know it's blown before your truck over-heats. Just ask me how i know :)

Are those stupid things drilled into the metal of the hatch? So we'd have to do some rigging or welding to it like the OEM roof racks?

Anyone take their's off?

Thanks.

Yeah, people have been known to have removed the deflector. It is drilled and screwed into the top hatch.
As I recall, not much drama though as compared to the roof racks.

Beno, Yes i did removed the rear factory deflector ( not easy job thou ). Well easy from the outside look but once you try to remove the factory rear deflector ~theres 6 holes and those each holes has rivets
(pain in the As.. to remove it :whoops:
But with the new rear deflector i have right now its totally different concept ( the way to installed )
Just double stick tapes & 3 clamps on each side attaches to rear hatch. ;)

For Firstoy & NorCalDoug, hahahehee can we just get long among the 80 group :D

Perhaps some sort of poll would give the thumbs up or down to how effective the spoilers are. I for one would be interested in a device other than a wiper that keeps the rear window clear, as when it’s not raining here its drizzle when its dry the splash from the tyres (tires) obliterates the view and reversing in the dark, wipers going or not is a pain with splatter all over the rear screen. Do they do them for side mirrors as well?
