rear spoiler effect on aerodynamics?

Nice looking bit of kit are those flip ups adjustable or do they activate like those on some Porches. How much £ $$?

I got mine for about $200US plus s/h, but I've seen them as much as $250.

What does that make it, about 10 Euros? :D

As far as shipping goes, the way I like is trackable and insured for not much more (if not cheaper) than regular air mail.

I think there's a limit on the length + width + height and this one might be cutting it close.

I'll try looking into the actual cost, as well as the size restrictions on shipping (express, air and slow boat) later (gotta get the kids ready for school and me for work ;) ), for those of you still interested after finding out the part cost.

Oh, I believe they are adjustable, but not automatically or electronically like that of Porsche's. :D

OK,

Assuming that I can get one for $200 plus $20 for wire transfer fee and shipping to my address and $70 for express shipping (trackable) with insurance (sub-total of $290) plus my take (10%) would be about $320 (Did I do my math correctly?).

If you want extra padding inside, bubble wraps or newspapers it may cost extra (if I have old paper I can use then no increase unless it gets too much heavier or if I have enough old bubble wraps, then no extra charge, etc...)

I would first have to confirm that I can still get them (I think so) and shipping cost (to my address) for sure before locking down on the price.

Anyway, if any of you are still interested in getting one, please let me know. My e-mail address is:

motoomi@yahoo.com

Please let me know if you have any questions.

I forgot to add the dimensions and stuff:

25.5cm X 25cm X 128.5cm

Weight 3600 grams (3.6kgs or around 7lbs.)

Going slow boat might make it cheaper by some, but IMO not enought to justify the time and especially the risk of damage.

Anyway, FWIW.

Mot,

Do you have a pick of the spoiler mounted on an FZJ80?

Do you have the part number?

You are driving something that has the areodynamics of a billboard. The only thing my deflector does really well is display my "IH8MUD.COM" decal.

Perhaps some sort of poll would give the thumbs up or down to how effective the spoilers are. I for one would be interested in a device other than a wiper that keeps the rear window clear, as when it’s not raining here its drizzle when its dry the splash from the tyres (tires) obliterates the view and reversing in the dark, wipers going or not is a pain with splatter all over the rear screen. Do they do them for side mirrors as well?

The wind deflector is not so effective that it blows water off the glass, it just keeps dirt carrying air from under the vehicle from curling up and onto the glass.

If my truck did not already have one I would not install one, but since it is already there I will leave it as it has some use

hoser,

Let me see if I can find something from my old files when I got it (last year). I'll post it when/if I find it.

It would be to your advantage (obviously) if you could get it from CDan or your friendly local Toyota dealer. But IIRC, they were running low, quit making them or were going to quit making them soon while ago. Hope that's not the case.

I think they are still available to some extent since I remember seeing one on Yahoo recently (think it was for 80).

Anyway, I'll let you know.

I agree. It is effective in keeping the rear window clear of dirt and dust plus it will eventually be the place where I mount a couple of work lights.

A friend of mine is going back to Japan next month and asked me if I wanted anything. I couldn't think of anything at the time... well at least not anything she could carry on the plane.

hoser,

Why don't you give your friend a list of Cruiser accessories you want brought back from Japan unless "08616-60040 Back Visor Set" can be ordered in the US, too.

Yes, call up your local Toyota parts guy or CDan and see if he can get one for you. The part number was on at the bottom of the box!

If he can't and you still want one, let me know and I would help you, either by sending one to your friend's hotel(?) in Japan or to you directly.

Let me know if you (guys) can order it there! ;)

Good luck! :)

After viewing the pics people have posted for the various deflectors, it dawned on me  that if you plan on hauling anything up top like I often do (ladders, long lumber, angry girlfriends) the deflector could very much be in the way. Thankfully I dont have one. You wouldnt want your load putting pressure on that deflector or tearing it out of that hatch

Anyhow, something to think about for those who may be considering adding one to their Cruiser. You would atleast need towers coming up from the gutters that are going to get the load bars taller then the height of the deflector.
