I have a 2021 LX570 with around 40,000 miles on it. I recently had a brake job done at an independent Toyota shop, and the mechanic mentioned that my rear left shock absorber is leaking. He recommended I take it to the dealership for replacement, since it’s still under warranty.

However, upon checking again, I am not entirely sure it is severe enough to warrant a replacement right now. My philosophy is usually “it still works, don’t fix it” but I don’t want to ignore a potential issue, especially if it’s covered by warranty.

I have attached photos comparing the left (allegedly leaking) shock and the right one. Could anyone advise if this looks bad enough to replace immediately? Any input or personal experience with LX570 shock leaks would be greatly appreciated!

If it were out of warranty I might let it coast for a while until I had time to do it, but since it's covered I don't see any downside in having Lexus repair it. Not only do you gain a zero-time shock, but you also get a AHC fluid flush out of the deal.

I have a 13 lx.at 120 k miles. I had three out of four my struts leaking. It was noticed by independent tech at Toyota speciality shop. I kept on eye for it and accumulated parts. I found Landcruiser shop who replaced struts, mounts, and globes at 170k miles. They stated that one of my globes was not functioning so the pump extra pressure probably made the seals on struts start leaking.

It does appear to be some wetness on ur struts. Make sure your globes are working properly via techstream.

Not an emergency. Mine leaked for like 20k miles for replacing. Keep an eye on the fluid reservoir though.

Thanks! If it needs replacement, I will probably just do it now when it’s still under warranty. It will run out of warranty in 5 months.

It would be to your advantage to have it done under warranty. Could be shock, globe, or both. Regardless, the AHC system will need to be flushed and bled, so you might as well have the dealer absorb that cost under warranty.

Candidly asking. Are shocks a warrantable item? I always thought they were like brake pads and consumable items, which are not covered.

Might just be the reflective angle of the pic, but it looks like you've spent a good deal of time on the rear bump stops. Do you tow heavy?
Never have towed. It is 2013 lx with 176k miles. I purchased it at 85k miles. I know previous owners did not tow either.

I had mounts, cushions, and globes replaced at 170k. It was Land Cruiser speciality shop who performed the work. They didn’t mention anything about bump stops. So I am hoping it is only the angle.

I did tow a 22 ft trailer for about 2k miles in total. Did you refer to the bright spot at the top? I didn’t notice until you pointed it out. Is it an issue?

edit: nvm. I just realized you were not referring to my picture.
