Rear seatbelt came unlatched in collision

I was unable to recreate the belt coming unlatched no matter how hard I pulled it in any direction. I looked in the latch as well as I could with a flashlight and couldn't see any foreign objects in it. I called the local Lexus dealer and they seemed uninterested in anything other than selling me parts.

The belt and latch will be added to the insurance claim.

You're going to say no, but I bet it wasn't fully latched. With the belt holder on the other side, it can seem like the buckle is latched in all the way since it's holding in place. Or, in kneeling on it, you pushed something down enough to press the red button maybe.

Maybe. I am human after all.

Either way the new belt and buckle will be installed in a few days to give me piece of mind over it being a defective part.

Let insurance know. They will take care of that latch/belt as they won't want any potential liability down the road. They should also be offering to replace that car seat if it was occupied during the accident.

Insurance replaced the seat belt and latch, no questions asked.

They replaced the child seat also, even though it wasn't occupied.
