Has anyone taken the rear seats out of their 250/550 yet? I have a 200 series and when you remove the middle row, you get a warning light on the dash for the SRS system because one of the sensors is in the seat. I was curious if the same thing happens in the 250/550.

Someone found a MacGyver workaround for the 200 series using a resistor that lets you fool the system into thinking the seat (and sensor) are installed.

It will likely come down into just being a resistor too when someone does that mod on the 250/550… IMO.. still too early with too few sold

It was the same way on the 460

If someone can help me with figuring out how to check for the level of resistance needed, I'll volunteer to be the guinea pig when I get mine (hopefully late next month). I've got a standard multimeter but not sure if that will suffice and if so, how to even measure it.

FYI, someone on another forum has taken the rear seats out of their 1958 Edition and received no warnings on the dash. This included while parked and driving. Great news!

Interesting…I’m curious if a good scanner picks up the disconnected SRS components. If not.. IMO.. a little disconcerting for stock rigs carrying passengers with SRS failure for some reason in that area of the vehicle

Yeah, I find it a little hard to believe myself until I test personally that nothing will show up on the dashboard. Based on the pictures he shared, there were definitely plugs that had be disconnected to remove the seats and it was a 1958 edition so no seat heaters. Was thinking maybe the system is smart to somehow realize the seat is completely gone so no one is sitting there for airbags to deploy for......but.....also thinking that Toyota (or any manufacturer) probably wouldn't put that much energy into designing a system for what will be fringe cases of people removing the rear seats. 🤷‍♂️

I haven't seen the airbags deployed on a 250, but assuming they are similar to the 150 - there is 1 side curtain airbag per side, which covers front, rear, and 3rd row (if equipped), so there is no need for rear seat occupant detection. The 200 has rear seat mounted additional side airbags. The 150, at least, only has those on the front seats.
