On I-90 this weekend when I thought I had blown the center muffler or one of the down pipes. Figured I was about to spend $$$ to replace the system.

Got home to find the pass side rear O2 sensor hanging by its cable. The studs were intact with clean threads which is amazing since the rest of the underside is very rusted. IDK if the nuts just both rotted away or suddenly backed off (seems unlikely).

The Check Engine light never lit up. Does the rear O2 sensor actually do anything?

Ha, funny, this happened to me a few years ago, it made my truck sound like our beater '90 Chevy plow truck... the sensor came out but the dealership was able to get it back on. Consensus says that it monitors whether or not the cats are doing their job.
