I was wheeling at Imogene pass and getting this clinking noise and this is what I found...is there quick fix for this?...I have the ARB bushing but it's 1100 miles away ;o(((.....I am in Durango now....wonder any other bushing will fit this OME shock...

Thx for the help

The bushings are a press fit, which you are not going to be able to do on the road [unless you carry a press].
Just about anything you put in there is going to be extruded out quickly. Might be best to remove the shock before both the eye and the mounting beat each other to death.
Once you get back to civilization you might find a shop that can press in a bushing that will hold until you get back to base.

If its the older style shock, i thought it was just a poly bushing you could quite easily tap in with a hammer? I'm pretty sure i put mine in on my 80 with a hammer and some wd-40. Same on my OME setup on my FJ Cruiser as well. Yes a press might be a little easier. If you can't get it with a hammer, you can very easily take your bottle jack and a piece of wood and create a press with the weight of your truck.

I would check with some various auto parts stores to see if they have any kind of poly bushings for shocks. Something in a similar diameter width would work well enough to get you home until you could order replacement from ARB.

You can press the lower bushing into the OME shocks without a press. My friend and I used a normal ratcheting clamp to press them in.I bet you could press it in with your foot if someone kept it lined up. I'd see if any of the sway bar bushings are a similar size. If so take the sway bar out and use a bushing from that.

Unbolt lower shock mount. Take some electrical tape and wrap it about 50 times or until it is the same inner diameter of the shock. Replace shock and bolt.

Autozone or other, look for "Energy" suspension bushings, they make all different sizes and should work as good as the original, but hopefully better.

Maybe a couple short lengths of slit heater hose or even garden hose just to get you by??

Steve

Thanks for all the tips.....I bought a pair of bushes from O'Reily and they just had one size...it would not fit the bolt and would not fill the shock ring either.....But I slized one side and put it in...it will do until I get home....it's loose but does not make any noise..

Hoser-...why did u say replace the shock??

Guys ...thanks for all the help/suggestions..

If I may... Hoser merely suggested to remove the shock from the lower shock mount, wrapp electrical tape and reinstall the lower part of the shock to the lower mount. esentially using the electrical tape as a temp bushing.

Hoser if I got that wrong please correct me. good thing about this thread are the ideas for temp fixes....

Yes, that is what I meant... as a trail fix. Heater/radiator hose, as hankinid suggested, would've probably been the better idea.

Well, I heard that clunking too and both my rear bushings are gone.

The link above is inactive.

Do I need to get OME bushings? Or can I just go to a shop and get them done?
