I saw the reflection of the back of my cruiser today and I noticed that the brake light section on the back door seems to light when I hit the brakes but the turn signal portion and the reverse light section don't seem to. I have searched for pictures and for a discussion on the rear lights but I cant find one that clearly tells me whether the sections in the door do light up.

They do, your bulbs are probably out. Seems like a fairly common issue.

I am going to resist the pull of the newbie d/a urge and not ask how to get into the tailgate door lights. I am going to SEARCH! But I still say I wouldnt have known that they light up... Had I not asked a newbie question.

I guess the back of the ship will be getting LED replacement bulbs before the front

I have searched. I found a thread on how to replace the bulbs in the rear quarter panel. I cant find anything on replacing the bulbs in the back door. Can anyone give me a hint?

Pull up the carpet on the tailgate. There are probably 20 clips holding the cardboard backed carpet to the metal tailgate. Use something big and flat to pop the clips out without breaking the cardboard. Once that's up there are 2 panels with 2 philips head screws. That's where the lights are.

These bulbs from Superbright LEDs are nice in red.

This is what you'll see. Be careful when removing the carpet. That cardboard get brittle after a decade.

OK, so did anyone read this guys post?

On the Land Cruiser - the turn signals and reverse lights are only in the outer housings, the ones mounted to the body. The tailgate only has tail/brake lights, no reverse or turn signal.

On the LX470 - the reverse is in the tailgate housings but in 2003 they switched the reverse to a separate housing and left the reverse light area above the brake lights empty. In 2006 they made the turn signals in both the body and tailgate housings and kept the inner reverse lights.

Thank you 1loudlx for replying before I started trying to pull things apart. I had tried looking really close at the tailgate lenes to see if I could find any evidence of a bulb, I had google and youtube search to see if I could find a pict or video of them lit up and I had searched ih8mud but couldn't find a clear answer. Now my question is could one fabricate one set of those empty spaces into rear fog lights?

Well, there are brake and tail lights in the tailgate lens, if you're in north america. Overseas some vehicles come with a rear fog in the drivers side tailgate lens, and blank on the other side. You could easily drill a 1" hole and mount a round LED in there to act as a rear fog if you desire.

Where are you?

Maryland... the fog lights only go on one side? I also had the idea to put some Led's where the reverse light lens is in the tailgate on a seperate switch just to have more light in the back for loading and unloading when I am on the farm or camping and such

I can't find the answer through searching... perhaps i'm not using the correct search terms.

Does anyone know if the 06-07 LX taillights can be used in other years?
