Well, I am on to the next project on the 96 KZJ95. I am going to have to replace the real axle inner seals. One is leaking really bad. My axle was really low on gear oil and started to make a clunking noise in reverse. I filled it up tonight and will see if it still makes the noise in reverse tmrw. I am going to try to get seals from the Toyota dealership as they appear to be the same on a 1996 4Runner. Any wisdom is much appreciated.

I would verify by VIN on Partsouq. Your Prado utilizes rear discs unlike the 4Runner. Could be the same parts, could not. I know the axle housing itself has a different bolt pattern for the axle shafts. As far as the diff, make sure you don't have a bad u-joint. If the diff is bad you're looking at a rebuild, I won't sugar coat it to you. If you think the diff is bad I would be doing bearings and seals on both sides. Just FYI, once the axle seal leaks, it washes out your wheel bearing grease. Would not be wise to simply slap in a new seal.

Thanks for the help. I actually did use partsouq! The part number was the same for my vin and a 1996 4Runner (but there were many hiluxs/4runners to choose from). That makes sense about the axle grease. I don’t think the diff is bad but we shall see. This thing is gonna kill me!

So some how I was able to edit your post. Sorry about that. I put it back to original. It looks like I will need to press out the bearings. Ugh. After re-reading your post I need to confirm a bad u-joint vs. a bad rear differential?
