Having some troubles on my 96. The rear hatch locks/unlocks no problem, but when I open the latch, there’s no signal that the door is open, so the lights don’t come on. Any ideas?

the door switch is in the latch, make sure that its plugged in and if so you may need to replace it. someone did a write up to add a manual light switch for the rear hatch you should be able to find it if you search
If it’s not the switch itself, commonly it’s the wires coming through at the hinge. My lock works, but until I took a look inside the boot to see worn wires from all the years of hatch open/close, jiggled around and cleaned up a little, I had no dome light or rear wiper. Try moving them around to see if you can toggle the light on.. that’s how I confirmed my issue. Also can check in the jack area at driver rear panel, big bundle of wires & connectors in there, potential corrosion/etc
