I am replacing the inner C channels in my rear frame. After working all day, I now have one side out. I want to replace the channel rather than box the frame. For those who have done this before, is there a standard size channel that fits tightly inside the frame rails? What size do I need? Thanks

Inner frame rails

Did it about 2 year ago.

From memory 3 5/8 out side dimension by 19 long
The two top/bottom flanges are 2 inches wide

I had the steel yard break(bent if you use lay language) the two pieces out of 3/16 plate Tell the steel yard the dimensions you want and they will make an allowance for the thickness to get the correct outside dimension. There is a bending allowance formulae the break operator uses.
Check the inside dimension of your frame rail just to make sure its 3 5/8

I installed then in place and marked couple of holes on the vertical web of the frame rail and then bolted them in with a couple bolts and then marked the rest of the holes. I them took them out and center punched the holes and drilled them in the drill press. 7/16 diameter holes
Then bolted them back in withe two vertical flange bolts and drilled through the Toyota flanges with a 7/16 drill
You need 1" bolts and flats and 1 3/4" bolts for the spring perches. I used nylok nuts and flat washers all grade 8, probably overkill.
I don't think you can get all the bolts in to replace the rivets but you can get enough. You can always put in extra bolts in you like but they add weight so your gas milage suffers a little.

Good luck on a grunt job. Bet you can't do it without swearing a few times.

Thanks JB. I was afraid I might have to get something fabed up and this seems to be the case.
