I connect my iPhone/iPad using the hdmi connection and using a lightning-to-hdmi adapter.

There's tons of incredibly powerful HDMI (or av out for older cruisers) streaming products you can buy to really wake up the entertainment system.

If you have unlimited cell wifi tethering, you can do any of the typical Fire stick/Roku/Chromecast devices. These eat bandwidth playing video.

Or better yet, if you have any digital media files already, you can get a any of the generic "streaming media players". Tons on amazon from $20-50 dollars. These can easily do what fire stick/roku/chromecast do to play netfilx, youtube, etc., but also have the power to easily play local digital files from an SD card or USB stick. All with remote control.

I do have movies but was hoping to just have to instert a USB drive o SD card and play off that.

You need to buy DIVX player with 480p Hdmi support. Then you can put all the movie in to DIVX Hdd disk play.

Can you let me know which specific cable or adapter you are using? I tried a couple from amazon of hdmi to lightening cables and they did not work.
I have not tried it in the LC, but I’ve been able to connect my iPhone to anything with an HDMI input using the Apple brand lightning to HDMI digital adapter and a good HDMI cable of appropriate length. Both are available on the Apple accessories site. Expensive, but good quality.

I am using belkin miracast adapter. Two cables from it. USB for Power and HDMI for video. Works really good.

I have a small media player with files that I connect. I also have a USB C to HDMI cable to connect my galaxy s8 to watch youtube, Netflix or anything in the phone. An adapter isn't needed just a straight cable will do.

This is the media player I bought.

This is the cable to power the media player from usb

The cable to connect the S8 is just a USB C to HDMI cable. I got it for $10 from a Facebook store.

I forgot to mention that mine is a 2013 so I also got a radioshack HDMI to composite adapter. This one doesn't need power which it's great.

Since I got the USB C to HDMI cable, I mostly use my phone and not the media player as much. It's pretty straight forward since it's just one cable now.

If you have an old smart phone you can use it as media player. With my belkin miracast I am using my old Samsung s5 phone.

Can anyone confirm that it’s possible to play video from iPhone to a 2016+? It’s been maddening trying to get it to work. I picked up a lightning to hdmi and usb cable. Tried Usb to the car as well as to a separate power pack, and hdmi to the input in the rear. The iPhone seems like it’s connected correctly

but this is all I see on the LC. Rear screens remain blank.

Tried playing a video file from the phone and from various video apps. Thinking a portable video player like the Micca referenced above may be the way to go.

If anyone can confirm it’s possible, I’ll keep trying, maybe with a new cable, but otherwise I think I’ll throw in the towel and pick up a separate video player.
Thank you!
