I was just underneath my new-to-me 100 and noticed that the rear driveshaft is reversed from what it is on my 80; that is the sleeve yoke (the sliding part) is towards the rear of the shaft rather than towards the front as the FSM for the 80 shows. The truck runs well, smooth, etc. Does the orientation of the sleeve yoke make any difference? Should I change it or leave it alone??
Thanks, Ned

You should definitely leave it alone. The slip joint on the shaft should be closest to the rear diff.

If you search around, I think you'll find that these appear to be mounted in both configurations in our hundies.

I can't be 100% certain that this is from factory as many of us are not the original owners of the vehicle-- so it is technically possible that the diversity in the drive shaft orientation has been introduced after the fact by some mechanic along the way (personally, I don't believe that to be the case--with so many of these having been dealer maintained their early lives, particularly the LX's)

Depends on the gearbox. Here are two examples:

There is also this:

Thanks for the responses guys, especially uHu. I'll have to figure out which tranny I have, but it looks as though the driveshaft hasn't been messed with so it may be stock as-is. I was concerned since I had redone the universals on my 80 and it is the reverse of the 100....etc.
uHu- Have you been to Minot, North Dakota for the annual Host Fest? My mother's family was from Tromso and I'd love to go see my cousins over there. Probably leave the cruiser behind.

nodaksn3, your 100 has an A343F transmission.

Despite the A442F pictures and any other reasoning, I almost feel like the yoke should be at the differential end for better lubrication at the "seal," especially on a lifted LC (driveshaft more at an angle).

This is great. So what years have the 750f transmission?

Old thread but I'll answer anyway.

1998-2002 A343 4-Speed
2003-2007 A750 5-Speed
