So I did find the connector behind the trim in the quarter panel. But could not disconnect at the connector (was afraid of breaking it and then being forced to buy and wait on a new switch). Just took out the bolt in the door jamb, pulled the boot off, cut off the plastic holder things, took it apart and cleaned everything with some steel wool. Put it back together and it works great. Once I decided to just do it in situ it took about 20 minutes. Hasn't worked in years.
 
These switches are used on nearly every toyota for 2 decades.
Replacements can be bought for <$5 on ebay.
