I have a recently acquired 99 with a (Toyota) rear dif locker. I'm doing all of the fluids and what not and I've read a lot on here about not using the synthetic in the diff as it's kind of a waste. I know the lock is a mechanical not friction lock, but is it recommended to put a gear oil with the limited slip additive. Thanks much.

FSM just says use HYPOID GEAR OIL for the rear diff w/ dif lock.

You can't loose using Amsoil in the rear, front and transfer case. I also use it in the transmission and drain three quarts when changing oil using Amsoil or Mobile 1.

No limited slip additive.

Slightly off topic, but do non-locking 98/99's require the additive? IIRC pre-ATRAC they were either locking or LSD. Just curious.
