Rear coil springs on a Tacoma

Nice truck, what I'm looking to do is take the factory leaf springs off, and replace with coils.

96-02 4runner axle
and coil buckets off the body of said 4runner

Seems to me that would be the "easiest" way to try and attempt it.
Never seen it tried before......

That's a good idea, I was thinking of that myself, I just wanted to see if anyone else has done it before. Maybe get some tips from them. I'll have to get some measurements.

Ride too rough for ya?

It's times like this I'm glad Toyota listens to ppl like you, than ppl that should be driving trucks...

Naw, I'm thinking of a project to work on after I finish my 78 40. Rough ride is not an issue. I've got a 76 FJ40 tub that I was thinking of putting on a tacoma frame. The rear leaf springs are to long. Stick out the rear to far.

Been done plenty of times on Hilux trucks down in Aussie Land. I was reading through a couple nice builds a few weeks ago. I'll find the links and post them up.

That will be great, I appreciate it.

I'm all ears, man... What's yer plan, Stan?

Might I suggest a 86-95 4Runner frame? Easy to lift to with stock (cheap) Fj80 coils.

There should be plenty in skrap yards since the popular opinion in North America is it's got a high center of gravity and we all know how good americans can drive... I mean, there should be plenty because of roll overs... Even more since the words "Preventative Maintenance" are strickened from our vocabulary's...

ANYTHING your heart desires in aftermarket support... And if ya get lucky and get one with a tranny and TC, the drop will be on the side you need. But you will be stuck (boo) with a Toyota 8" rear unless a TacomaRunner rear axle is a bolt-in.

And didn't I hear something about a recall on Tacoma frames?

Are the 4Runners of that era covered as well?

Here's one of the links I was talking about... This guy did a bit more work and went with puttin LC80 axles under the Hilux and swappin the rear diff from the LH side to the RH side. And he went with custom control arms too I guess.

80'S IN A LUX...ONE WAY OF DOING IT.

Here's the one that uses the factory 4runner suspension that I've been trying to track down:

My lux SAS dual case and coil rear install underway (starting on page 10 of that thread is where he starts getting into the coil rear)

Seems like a great way to go to me. Take your bed off and you've got all the access in the world for getting it all welded up and situated perfectly. Keep us posted if you go for it--with plenty of pics. :D

Sure will, I appreciate you finding that for me, that's a big help.
I will be doing it. I'll have to start looking for donor vehicles.

Thanks again,
Mike
