The carpet in my cargo area was a mess when I bought it. It looks like the P.O. somehow bleached it then had it repainted which caused a large section to lose its fibers. This was mostly in the 3rd row foot section but it was on both carpets and quite the eyesore. Especially since my kids will be sleeping there while we camp.

Not wanting to spend the time or the money replacing the carpets, I went hunting for a budget friendly option. I found some marine carpet at Home Depot for $5 a linear foot (6’ wide roll) and decided to give it a whirl. With free home shipping with a $45 order, I ordered 10 feet with a total of $52 with tax.

The carpet isn’t fancy or waterproof but it cuts relatively easy, doesn’t snag when cut, is thin enough to fit under existing trim, and is soft to the touch. Start to finish took me about 2 hours. I’m no pro so there are some wrinkles but for less than $55 and 2 hours of time, I’m happy. Just wanted to share the option.

I’m not sure what to do about the edge seam. When the 2nd row seats are down, it’s completely hidden. But when they are up, I think it’s going to lend itself to being pulled out from under the trim. Maybe some Velcro of some sort.

For the loose edge, check if a velcro "hook part" sticks to the old carpet. If you don't want velcro, you could just put in 3-4 stitches with a curved needle to hold it down.
