I had this rear brake light leak too. The color matched blank on the door itself where the brake light was in model years before the whale tail was the culprit. I remove the cover and replaced the crappy original seal (not waterproof) and put it all back together. Hose test confirmed I fixed 98% of the problem. Dang, now it's all sealed up and a gap too narrow to get a bead of sealant to flow. Eureka! I filled a big bore soda straw with silicone, rolled up and clamped one end, flattened other end and slipped it in crack between blank and metal indent in rear hatch. Squeezing down the straw added sealant to the problem through this narrow gap. Move the straw around the perimeter with gentle pressure to push the goop. Next hose test proved 100% dry.

i have a 2006 LX 470 which has the rear leak issue. thanks to the genius who figured out the pressurized cabin test. did this which produced bubbles on top of the rear light blank behind the spoiler. will let u know how repair goes and if it's the only leak!

update on the 2006 LX 470 leak. Used 3M strip caulk for the rear light blank. very easy to work with and it worked. I also found the weather stripping around the cargo door had lost its adhesion. To test, I used painters tape to see if I could seal it before I really sealed it. It worked. I removed the weather stripping, clean it up and then sealed. No more leaks! thx to the forum for help!
