So I’ve been having some weird brake issues in the driverside rear. Like a bubble or something in the brake line. Sometimes when I press the brakes, the pedal kinda slips or depresses a little further than the first stop point like there is some weird friction in the drum in the new parts or maybe feels like a burp of sorts (makes a squeak in the left rear drum) in the system. I just thought maybe it’s just something in the drum that needs lubing or is catching in a weird way. Then today I notice this on top of my MC cap. Its leaking. Could this be the burping feeling because there is air burping out the top of the cap causing a slip due to loss of pressure for a moment? Thoughts?

Which year/model 80 Series (FJ80)?

Is (was) the brake fluid reservoir overfilled?

Any recent brake service/repairs?

Have you removed the wheels (front and rear) and rear brake drums to inspect the brakes (calipers, shoes, etc)?

Top off the reservoir first and try to bleed the brakes (all 4 corners and the LSPV) in the factory recommended order. I ended up putting in speed bleeder valves replacing all 5 factory valves and have great success getting all the air out of the system. Of course inspect the brakes first per suggested by Kernal above and go from there....

Shoes squeaking when you press the pedal is very common, The shoes have to slide against the backing plate. Clean the backing plates of brake dust, pry the shoes up a little with a screw driver and bush some grease onto the backing plate where they touch the shoes. shoes out of adjustment could also cause a low pedal but it will be consistent, internally bypassing master cyl can also cause a low pedal as well as failing brake hoses or leaks.

Brakes were just completely redone by a local
LC shop. Just curious if I should try something before I take it back up there to see if they can figure it out. Thx guys!

@andersonoverland : IMHO I'd call them in the morning, leave a message if the shop is closed on Saturday, then plan to take your truck right back to the shop before you touch anything. Brakes are a safety issue, needs to be done right.
