Hey Guys,

I need some help identifying my rear brakes on my 1976 FJ40. From my research and previous ownership, I believe standard this vehicle would have had single wheel cylinder brakes but my vehicle had double wheel cylinders in the rear. My vehicle has been modified in having 60 series disc brakes in the front. I'm suspecting the previous front brakes may have been moved to the rear?

My drums are marked with "292mm Max" so I presume they are 290mm drums. I have measured the dimensions and these drums should suit:

My issue is that all 290mm brake shoes that I can find appear to be for single wheel cylinder installation while I have dual. The dual wheel cylinder brake pads all appear to be for 295mm drums with 75mm width.

The 2 brake shoes I've been looking at are 1414 and 1415:

Can someone shed some light on what Brake Shoe I should be looking for?

Thanks

Your 76 40 should have 2 wheel cylinders on each side in the rear. The ref of 292 mm is the max the drums can be cut to stay with in legal limits, anything beyond that they will need to be replaced. You should look for shoes for a 76 FJ40 if it's US spec.
