Rear Axle ABS Plug Housing

Last night I did some wheeling and this morning I went out to run an errand and the ABS light did not shut off. I killed it and then restarted and same thing. I went around the axle amking sure that the plugs were still in and the rear passenger side plug was out. The plastic housing on the axle is shattered. It looks like I am going to have to get a new one but is this normal? All of the other plugs and housings look fine. Anything I can do to prevent this or the others from the same fate?
