Has anybody ever wondered why Toyota put the rear air conditioning controls so far back in the truck. It would seem a lot easier if they put the controls in the second row instead of way in back by the fold out seats.

It seems the mid seat gets good air from the center front vents, above the side window, and under the front seats IIRC. Nice to give the third seat occupants some control as they can't exit on their own and are often ignored by the driver, deliberately or not. :)

The second row , as well as the third row occupants can reach the controls in it's current location. If it was any farther forward the poor guys in the third row wouldn't be able to do anything but complain.

Yeah, I was wondering that too. Also, even on the "auto" setting, I can't seem to control it from the front. It's probably just me.

The LC's AC controls blow

The AC controls are one of the few things that Toyota got wrong. There should be both front and rear controls for the rear AC (i.e., up front you can select fan speed and temp, or you can select "rear control" and the rear seat passengers can manage the AC themselves.

Also, at least when you have the Nav, the front controls are a pain in the ass. The fan switch turns the fan off (it doesn't even toggle between on or off, let alone allow you to cycle through fan speeds). If you want to change the fan speed, you have to push a button under the Nav, then use the touch screen on the nave to set the fan speed. Big pain.

I agree 100%

I just set Auto and the temperature I want. It regulates itself, which is actually good for it (cycles through all modes, not just stuck on one, which can lead to failures). That's the beauty of Auto A/C IMHO. Why struggle with it?

I must be weird. My old XtraCab didn't have AC and now I have this weird obsession with not running the compressor unless it's hot or I gotta defrost the windows.

Yeah, I feel your pain. We once upon a time had a (gasp) Dodge Durango that might as well have had no A/C since it always overheated in commuter traffic.

Also, to save gas I would rather run the compressor on the freeway rather than open a window. IMHO it ends up wasting (slightly) less gas, plus it's usually cooler and definately quieter!
