Really bad knuckles

Since everyone else is doing knuckles I figured I'd post pics of the really bad ones I pulled apart today. I've never seen the outer hub seal rusted off of the spindle or the spindle bolts rusted off before. Finally got all of the bolts out and there was nothing in the knuckles. The only lubrication the birfs were getting was oil running down the leak on the inner shaft. To make it even sweeter the upper bearing on one side came out with the arm while the rollers stayed in the knuckle. I'm not even sure how that happens

That is fantastic! Was the birf burnished from the inside out? How about a shot of those wheel bearings? They couldn't be much better.

Amazingly the birfs don't look that bad. I don't even have to clean the grease out of them . I haven't cleaned up the wheel bearings to see how they look. The grease on them is well past it's prime. I've got a new set to go in.

Already started calling around for new ones. Can you believe Toyota discontinued them!!

Are you talking about backing plates? I have a couple...

Yep the backing plates. I think I found a pair.

Wow. All of the sudden I'm feeling better about digging in to the 80's axle.

Based on the first picture, it looks like they need to TREs also.
