I replaced my head gasket today,(88 yota 22re)Had the injectors cleaned and I cleaned the throttle body. After putting everthing Back together and starting it up, sound like there is an exsaust leak (loud) coming out of the rear (pass side) of the motor.(But It Not Exsuast) It also makes a loud noise like the valves are hitting when i try to set the timing. I guess what I am woundering, is if this could be from the timing chain moving sometime during the repacement, (the timing marks where at 0 on the pully and 12:00 on the sprocket).
Any help would be appriciated. Thanks in advance

Don't have great news for you. The timing mark on the cam sprocket is supposed to be at 11:30. Sounds like you might be off a tooth. But that shouldn't mean piston vs. valves "the fight of the century". Try turning the engine over by hand with the plugs out to see if the valves are indeed hitting the pistons.

If it sounds like an exhaust leak, let it cool off then start it and feel around for hot air blowing. With the fan turning there's lots of air being blown around, you may want to take the fan off just to check for it. Don't run it too long without the fan on.
