As I was taking the front hub oil seal off today a spring washer came out. I have a schematic but it doesn't show this part. All I know for sure is it's somewhere between the oil seal and the bearing. Anyone know exactly where it goes? I'm stuck

Post a picture. I'm having a hard time following you.

Hmmmm. I've had the hubs apart and there's nothing I would call a spring washer. If there a chance it was the spring that fits in the groove around the oil seal to hold it tight against the axle?

Picture on the way

Should be races, bearings, and grease. That's it.

It's basically a circular spring. Thought it might have come out of the old seal, but I don't see one in the new seal.

I'm confused because it can stretch to fit over almost anything in there. It's not my day today. Trying to find a 54mm or 2-1/8" socket is like searching for the Arc of the Covenant, albeit not as exciting as the movies.

Yep, that's the spring around the groove in the seal. Some brands of seals have and some don't.

Thanks Sandroad and everyone for the quick responses. Got it now

Most auto parts stores should have the 54mm socket. If you are in Socal you can borrow mine.

Thanks fellas, but Sandroad cleared it up for me.

I had to go to 6 different parts stores to find that socket and was so excited when I finally did, that I didn't notice it was a 3/4" drive. So back to the store in the morning for an adapter.

Sent from the future to protect John Conner.

I'll second that motion. Definitely seen that before. Fits around the seal groove. And again, as someone mentioned already, some have them, some don't :)
