Hi Guys, I want to get one of these for my cruiser, does anyone have any recommendations?

I'd like real time tracking and decnt monthly fees - or is there a no fee system?

Thanks.

Louis

Not into Ham, I have a sat phone now for remote communications. Thanks though!

APRS sounds neat - can you give me more details or point me in the right direction?

I just purchased a Yaesu 8900R and I'm still working on the mount and antenna. What else would I need to buy or do to get the system set up?

Thanks!

I use vigil Louis, On my cruiser and montero.

they have 12v or 24v device. If you disconnect it there is a battery in the device you can receive SMS alarm on your cell. You can check truck position anytime on there web site. They track the truck and redirect you to mapquest link with exact position of the truck. Pretty nice!

Not cheap, but from my research it is the best.

Hey man, where did you get your system and what was the cost? Can I order and install it myself or do I have to let some greasy guy at a car stereo place touch my truck?

Whats the size of the system? do I have to mount external antennas?
I was looking at vigil too, seemed like a good option!

seems like one of the limitations would be that you need cell phone coverage for the automatic systems, especially if you mean to have this for theft retrieval either in the far north or in so. america?

Hi Eric,

I think that is what I'm looking for. I want something that when someone steals my truck I can track them down and beat on them - and get my truck back. Some systems call the cell phone when the truck is started without keys in it - or when it is moved without me knowing it - that is what I am looking for.

What is your monthly fee? Is there any other service fees? WHat about the cost of the unit itself?

Just called them, the system installed is 429. Monthly fee is 14.95 paid for 1 year in advance, for an extra 25 dollar 1 time fee you get to go on the internet and track the truck 24 times a month.

Awsome deal - I'm going to get it.

What shop is that from? just called a place in Vancouver and they want $650 plus shipping. (I don't trust other people F-ing around in my electrical system...)

Same here, i went in the shop sat on the helper seat and watched him, he was not happy about it but it was that or someplace else. ;p, anyhow with all the 12V i've installed and all the none stock wires he would have needed my help.

No outside antenna, size of a set of playing cards. Louis mentionned the price.

I'm OK with the price but.....

WILL IT WORK IN CENTRAL AMERICA???
