real time: aftermarket stereo wiring

Im installing my app radio that i previously had mounted in my fjc into my lc.
Here is the problem; The wiring harness that i bought ( and the only style Ive seen) has the rca style speaker wire connections.
My app radio does not have any rca style pre-outs.....

I chopped up the rca's and wired them to the speaker wire from the decks harness.
Not working..... i get zero sound.
Will it work splicing into the rca's that way?
Or is it mandatory to have the rca pre outs for it all to work?

I definitely wasn't planning on buying a different deck!
