Hi guys, I a telecoms engineer in the field of radio communication and cctv surveillance monitoring.

I just purchased one 1999 V8 Landcruiser jeep and i lately discovered that the ac is not working.

I took it to a toyota dealer and they say that the ac compressor is not engaging and the ac fan is not working.

The surprising thing is they are telling me they cannot locate the fault. please do you know what and where to check to rectify the fault? I need help.

who to help me out?

I'd start by taking it to a competent mechanic...

+1. It ain't rocket science, but I don't know how many toyota mechanics live near you.

I`m thinking maybe the AC pressure switch

Well I am sure toyota has mechanics at their dealers, but how many toyota dealers are in Nigeria to begin with, led alone one trained on the LC

I am assuming you are referring to the toyota Landcruiser 100 series correct? If so what model/version is it and what a/c package does it have.

justimaginejack,

its a V8 landcruiser, japanese build and 1999 model.

it has the normal a/c cooling and heating.

just yesterday, i opened the fuse/relay box compartment near the engine and i discovered that one relay marked AHC is missing. do you know the function of the relay? and can you help me check? i want to buy and replace the relay.

I believe the AHC is for Auto Height Control and has nothing to do with your AC. I would actually guess that you have a control panel issue. Does your fan work when you turn the heat on?

ac compressor not engaged when ac switch is put on.

ginericLC,

Thanks, The fan inside the dash board is working ok.

When you press the ac switch, the ac compress is not engaged and also the outside ac fan that cools the radiator.

I am still waiting for help to enable me fix it.

thanks

Welcome to the site. Always great to hear from non-US folks.

Are you sure there is enough refrigerant in the system? if not, it will turn itself off.
You can tell by looking in the little window and see if there is flow with the appropriate amount of bubbles.

Given that you are in a less developed part of the world -I imagine- it may help you a lot to get one of the Factory service manuals. You may then be able to do a lot of checking yourself.

Silly ... You cant see the bubbles unless the compressor is running ... ;)

OK, OK, you're right about that, indeed

I'm kinda stating the obvious, no offense meant;
can you take it to a repair shop that specializes in Auto A/C??

Are you in a large city like Lagos.

I have found that, at least in the US, they are more adept at
figuring A/C issues out, and usually cost a heck of a lot less
than the dealer.

Here is a link to some repair shops in Nigeria:

Good Luck
