I bought some new doors for my '78 and would like to have them re-keyed to match my ignition.

I called a reputable local locksmith and he said that he probably wouldn't have the equipment to do it, but to bring it in and he can take a look.

Any locksmiths out there?

Is this a complicated task?

Something that I can do on my own?

If not, what would a professional need to have to do this?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Brian

I took the key and the lock cylinder to a locksmith. It took the lady about 10 min. to re key it to work with my key. She charged me $20.

i took my extra fuel tank cylinder to a locksmith with no key and they made a key for it.

I've gone the other way, door lock to ignition. Hell I meet my locksmith in a bar parking lot and he does it for $15 in under 5 min... Wait, that's when I don't have any keys so I don't know, should be easy and under $25 though..

on the topic of keys and locksmiths,
my fj55 rear window key switch no longer works, the key goes in but will not move the pins properly, so it doesnt turn.
i asked a locksmith and she said they cant fix it, also i've tried an auto electrician, and electronics stores, but no suitable replacement.
is there any way a locksmith can fix this, was she just pulling my leg?
