I am in the process of compiling my build list. :clap:

I current have an 03 LC, bone stock. I will get bigger tires (in addition to many other things), but larger tires begs the question, should I re-gear?

I have gone to larger tires in the past on other vehicles, and noticed a significant change in power off the start. I am also considering that I want to record actual mileage, correct speedometer, and accurate Navigation. However, I recall in the stock Navi menu there is a choice to make changes for a tire change.

Are there concern related to the transfer case?
Am I right to assume with the front suspension, there is only 1 ring and pinion set, which is in the rear?

This is my first 4wd with IFS, so go easy on that question! :doh: I have crawled around underneath and only see one!

Finally, how difficult, on a 1 to 5 scale is the project to re-gear the LC?

Ultimately, I would be fine with a re-gear if it meant I could maintain power and speed as experienced at stock.

Thanks for all the advice!

You have an 03 which mean you have a 5-speed gearbox. Which means adding larger tires doesn't have anywhere near the same effect as the 98-02 models. You also have the updated V8 w/ 15hp more. In other words, it's not as crucial as people make out. I've got 295's (34") on my 04 and I can't tell any different over stock.

Now once I load down the LC with all the armor and expedition gear, it's going to be a different story. Gearing will start making a lot more sense. but larger tires alone, no way.

Correct, needing to re-gear and 03+ is much less of a "need" due to the 5sp transmission.

HP change went from 230->235.
IIRC, no change was made to the engines, the change was made in the way the HP numbers were calculated, which resulted in the change.
Torque values remained unchanged.

Well you can quote specs, but drive both and you can tell a big difference. It's the number one reason I bought a 04 was for the 5speed and extra HP. Otherwise I would have spent $10k less and got a 2000.

The 5spd is definitely a LOT better than the 4spd.
Had the same transmission in my FJC. Since the FJ has been introduced i have rarely ever seen anyone have transmission problems with it.

This is the reason for the 06-07 hp discrepancy. AFAIK, there was indeed a small bump in HP rating for '03. But the tranny made for the bigger improvement.
