opinions on this: my LCs at the shop now and needs radiator work (it was leaking slowly and ever more gradually)-- the crossroads is this: they can re-do it to like new condition, or do i spring for a new toyota radiator (which is obviously more money.)

maybe i call cdan just to cover myself anyway...

money is an issue, but so is longevity of my truck.

thoughts on this? thanks.

I would call Cdan and go new. Follow the flushing proceedure as set out in the FAQs, then put in the new one.
Cheers,
Sean

If they will fully warranty the work for 3+ years, then go with the recondition and put away money for new radiator for later, if not, then spring for new. If they are willing to warranty, and are a good shop, then I wouldn't take a second thought at saving the money.

New tanks? If not, then I would get a new rad.

Tell 'em to give you a leaking 80 back. Call Dan and have a new one delivered to your home. Print out the various helper instructions on how to install it yourself with various shortcuts and do it. The cost of this way vs the shop recoring it will be the same, but you'll have a new rad. Also get new hoses and a thermostat and gasket from Dan at his excellent pricing.

I'd hate to drive around wondering if my radiator is good enough.

problem solved: new radiator.

(also... added a nice new blue PHH hose. chickened out and had the shop do it, but they have the tools, the lift, the time. i now of course have less money but more peace o mind.)

thanks for the replies.

You went new but did you go new OEM? Or a new aftermarket?

Recore? I remember when Chevy Vegas used to run. That didn't make them good, just makes me old! You are showing your era!
Unless your truck is outdated, (I don't know of a cruiser that is) you need to either chemically clean or replace the rad. De-soldering a radiator is reserved for those vehicles for which replacements are no longer available.

Go New..........
