Does anybody know if it's possible to get a used key from another LC (cost ???), buy the new shell case for it (~$4 bucks eBay), cut the key for your own LC (~$2 bucks True Value/Locksmith) and re-code the chip to one's own LC (free)?

After having to buy several new "3" button shell cases and have the keys cut for both my and my wife's Hundies and having to re-solder the door lock button on the chip for my Hundy this got me thinking. Especially since we only have one of these chip keys for each of our vehicles, so we're toast if we lose one.

This seems to me a much more cost effective solution for an extra key or two than the $300.00 dollar dealer option.:clap:

I'd like to bump this up to see if anyone that was out the last couple of days can answer this.
Next week, if I still don't get any reply and few views, I may bump it one more time for a look see in the community.
By then everyone should be back from vacation... I hope...
If there is still no action, I'll let it die.

Any problems doing that Trunk Monkey?

As long as your original master key transponder is functional, you can add on keys to start the truck. I have programed a few spares to work with my truck, the Camry blanks work great if you need a sturdy key to start the truck

As far as the keyless entry stuff, you may have to have the dealership program it. If you don't have the original master key, it gets trickier as the master is tied to the ECU on your truck.

Tons of threads on this, hit the search trail.

Not a problem with masters. I have one (3 button) master for both myself and my wife's LC. Have you actually re-coded a used 3 button chip from another LC to work with yours?

Thanks!
