So I want to try and tackle some lift gate rust myself. It looks like it hasn't penetrated the sheet metal too much, so if I can fix it myself, that'd be great. There are a couple local paint shops that I can have paint mixed into a rattlecan to match the color of the surrounding paint, but for the sake of extra protection, I'd like to clearcoat it as best I can. Does anyone know of a good quality clearcoat that can be gotten in a rattlecan that polishes down nicely and is durable enough to not deteriorate over time?

Ask them about a product called Bulldog...it's for tough adhesion problems, but can also be sprayed as a clearcoat. One thing I wasn't crazy about, it shot like an enamel, and didn't lay out as smooth as I wouldv'e liked...maybe it was a just a case of the wrong tip in the HVLP on my part.
