On my 94 I have rattle/vibration when its in drive this deep sounding rattle happens when the brakes are on at a stoplight etc. When I put it in neutral the rattle dies out and is smooth. The sound is from the PS under the hood. My first thought was the condenser box, I cleaned this out last spring and one of the clips could be loose or screw on the back side. But I hada friend secure the condenser cover and it was still there. Obviously its torque from transmission but too much to vibrate something else? Or is this a drivline issue
Any ideas/thoughts?? thanks

chris

Check the heat shield over the exhaust manifold. It's only held on by a few small bolts, and if they get loose or fatigue the metal to the breaking point, you'll get some rattle.

thanks Tom I will check it out tonight.

My 94 brokedown last night...not sure yet. But my symptons were very much the same leading up to said breakdown.

Lovey,
Can you be more specific on what broke down? I havent isolated the rattle/hum yet but think its more dash, condenser cover related no strain on the motor but vibration while in gear.

Bf jerky....im havin it looked at on monday...I will post the findings when I get them...hope this will help ya.

Alternator bolt

I think I may have solved my rattle problem. My symptoms are identical to the above described. I would hear a rattle sound from the engine when in gear and brake on. No rattle when in park or neutral. When I put pressure on the Alternator the rattle would diminish. I found the lower alternator mounting bolt was a little loose. Just to be sure, I put a thin piece of dense rubber under the alternator and readjusted/tighten it. No more rattle. I think the alternator was vibrating against the engine/frame. Kinda wierd this would only happen in gear with brake on. Maybe engine torque? Let me know what you guys find...maybe this is a symptom of a bigger problem.
Thanks.
Rob

I'm having a silmilar rattle under load/accel. Can't quite figure out where it's coming form but I do hear it somewheat on the driver side too. I'll check the shields first.
