Boys,
I have the stock wheels on my 2004 except the OEM or dealer or someone chromed them as part of some luxury package. The center caps never fall off but the make a lot of noise at slower speeds as they rattle in their seats. The are loose to the touch also.

I pulled one of them off and there doesn't seem to be any way to tighten them because there isn't any type of metal retaining clip or dampener like on my LC80's wheels. They are just molded plastic and the shape of the plastic is expected to hold the caps in place. Not sure what fatigued them or if a ton of metal clips fell off (doubt it).

Anyone have this problem, and know (or suggest) how to fix it? I really don't want to glue them in place since it won't hold for long and sometimes, there is a real reason to remove the caps.

Thoughts?

Isn't there supposed to be a metal ring inside the clips to keep them tight against the wheel?

yea, mine snapped and flew off on the highway  . then lost one on the trail  , managed to drop the tire on it and crush it when changing the flat  , and then the other one is in my garage somewhere. I gave up on plastic caps a long time ago

Anyone got a parts diagram to this effect?

I've used rubber cement...

Did you just put the goop on the caps and let it dry before putting the caps back on? I assume you didn't glue to caps to the wheel.

Try a thick rubber band. Wrap it around the part of the cap that interfaces with the wheel. It will act like a cushion and prevent the rattle. I have did this on a past vehicle and it worked fine.

That is a nice cheep idea. It guess it would do the same thing as coating the cap (interface) with rubber cement. Let me see what it looks like and I can stop at Office Max to get something.

Thanks

actually did glue to wheel... no rattle and come off easy when needed.. probably work after dried too??
