I have a 1999 LX 470. It has about 164000 miles. At about 148000 miles I started noticing the dreaded tinny rattle at 2000 rpms in second gear.

I took it in to Lexus of Thousand Oaks three times over 1.5 years (there currently) to search for the source.

Each time I told them I read on here that it was likely the cover to the catalytic converter (read on the group).

They replaced some other items but never identified the source.

Flash forward to today, they found it was the catalytic converter cover rattling.

They said they no longer make replacement covers for the catalytic converter but were able to bend it to give it space.

I don’t know if this is the solution but for some reason that noise really bugged me.

We shall see if the issue is really fixed.

I have never been a contributor here but this group has helped me so much over my years of ownership. Thank you guys.

I will update if this was the solution.

The solution is well known here and easy. Put a hose clamp around it to put pressure on it and secure it. No more rattling.
