A couple of years ago, I was on here singing the praises of the RRS and it’s quality. I was inferring that in many respects it was on par or superior to a LC.

That was at the beginning of the lease. The last year of the lease, the third year, the thing started giving problems. Silly things breaking, left us disabled in a couple of drive thrus, etc. The day we handed the keys back was a very happy one.

Forgive me for ever mentioning the LC and RRS together. My 2010 LC with 125K miles is a far superior vehicle. I was all starry-eyed with a new ride. All new rides are pretty nice and reliable.

OK, I’m absolved. :bounce:

The truth has set you free!
(Or at least the expiration of your lease...hehe)

Most full size Rovers, sports and LR4s with the 5L are ticking grenades (as in a $6k repair) with it's timing chain tensioner issues.

I had a 2012 Range Rover Supercharged (full size, not sport). Nothing but issues...luckily I had purchased it CPO and everything was covered under warranty. Got rid of it after 6 months.

I bought a new Discovery II HSE once upon a time and it was a laughable experience. The car was so poorly made and engineeried it made me wonder how the company existed at all. Everything you hear about these cars is true. They should be banished they are so awful.

nowyou know.webp

500 hp and comfy seats are great but the greatest thing is having something to rely on, after all these aren’t sports cars but SUVs. Glad it only took one lease for you to figure it out.

With the LC you can get there and back. With the LR you can get partway there - albeit in slightly greater comfort.

When I was in the UK the running joke was "how do you know that your Range Rover is on fire?" "All your gauges start working" and "why do Brits drink warm beer?" "they have Lucas refrigerators"

In Chat I posted about a gent I saw while I was getting petrol for my Tundra. He raced into the parking area, shut off his RR, jumped out of the vehicle in a suit and opened the bonnet. He peered inside then raced around to the back and opened the boot. With a quart of oil in his hand he ran to the front and added the oil. Disposed of the empty oil container and left.

All I could think of was “ do these people really wait until the oil light goes on to add or check the oil?”

Sometimes you have to add oil every day in a RR/LR/Jag/anything English or Italian

Had a 2014 LR4 for 2 years and 56K mikes. Great times. Introduced me to off roading. No issues. BUT, the longer I had it the more I feared it would let me dowwn. When they told me I had to pay $600 to replace the battery that powered the engine start/stop fuel economy “feature” I made the switch to our LC. Never a doubt that it was the right move. I loved the cargo space and fold flat seats of the LR4 but that’s about the only thing I miss. And the LC is a better tow vehicle for our trailer. And then I see what LR did with the new Discovery. Yikes. The new Defender may be interesting some day but only if it proves to be reliable. And I expect to drive my LC for another 8-10 years.

I owned a couple of early 1970s Fiat 124 Spyders and never had an oil leak or burn. Maybe just lucky. Never broke down on the side of the road either, but also seemed to know when it got home as I was never sure it would start again without buying it a part or two.

Also owned a couple of Norton Motorcycles. They never burned or "leaked" oil either, owners prefer referring to it as "marking their territory".

Also, the most frequent electrical reference for all things British was "Lucas - the Prince of Darkness" (well earned during more than one evening ride).
