Range Rover Sport versus LC 200

The full size SC RR is my favorite Suv to drive but it’s strictly a lease only vehicle. I’ve come close to buying one but my inner common sense keeps saying no. I just can’t figure out why they can’t or won’t make them reliable. If it were, they would be more expensive I bet.

Mentioned this before, but...

My neighbor’s $130k(?) new RR didn’t even make it across town from the dealership to drive it home. Had to go back to the dealer THREE separate times within the first several weeks or three different problems.

I asked them...because the color of their new RR kept changing colors(!!) between black...white...then black...then white, etc and I thought I was going crazy. ;)

Then I learned the erratic colors were because kept having to take a a white loaner when their black choice kept failing.

Lucky for them, I recently learned that they LEASED it instead of buying it... WHEW!!!!!

What a joke.

Agreed. Building and baking in quality and reliability are concrete steps that need to be taken during a development process. Along with part of the engineering mandate and culture. It doesn't happen by chance. It's probably part of the intangible initial costs of the LC that the general public (and reviewers) don't comprehend either.

As reliable as Toyota's are generally, it's been said that the Land Cruiser goes through an extra round of validation and testing iteration. On top of its already designed for durability and reliability, to ensure it performs up to expectations.

Here's an interesting article speaking to some of the measures:

After owning a RR or LR you must be a helluva mechanic by now.

Lol. They both are far end of reliability.
I will keep this thread updated with the Reliabilty of 2018 JLR - Jaguar Land Rover - Tata Motors product.
I bought a 2018 Jag SportBrake (Wagon) new this summer, the LX is the wife's Daily, no one wanted a Jag wagon or even knew they existed, sat on the dealer lot for almost 2 years and I was able to get it for about 33% off window price. It was too good of a deal to pass up :)
So far it's been great and fun, Supercharged V6 AWD and I extended the warranty thru 2026 so everything will be covered for 7 years.

Practical and fun, only 2" shorter than a 200, 195" vs 197"

Didn't know they sold that in the states!

Interesting look at how people view automotive purchases. I buy a car and expect it to last 10 to 15 years. It took 4 years after marriage, but I was able to convince my wife of this line of thinking. A good friend and his wife look at vehicles for 3 to 5 year max and want new. My friend buys the trendy, cool, vehicles or so says he. In the 15 years I have know him he has owned Lincoln Navigator (hotrod one with 4.6 with dual ohc), E Class, Cadillacs 2, Camaro, GMC 1500, Range Rover.

In same time I was already 8 years into a 1997 T100 still have 128K, 2005 Honda Pilot kept till 2018 184K, 2009 G37S Coupe 135K still have, Used 2016 LC 14K purchased in 2018 40K still have.

The T100 I am slowing fixing up just repainted it. The LC I hope to keep for next 20 years. The G37 to be replace for wife some time after 2022. She likes that Lexus RC or LC. I am hoping for LC or RC F.

If you only want a vehicle for 3 to 5 years most manufacture warranties will keep your out of pocket to minimum. But if you are in it for long run then you want something that will last and last. I would drive my current T100 from Texas to Maine tomorrow if I had reason to go and feel 100% sure I would make it their and back in 22+ year old truck.
