I'm looking for a recommendation on where I could take my rig to get my frame and everything possible underneath hit with a needle scaler then sandblasted. My 80 is nearly to the point that I can't let this rust go untreated very much longer.

Any shop recommendations out there that can help me with some rust PM?

I don't know of any in the area, but a good place to start looking might be calling around to some of the better bodyshops in the area.

Coat's Auto Body and Caliber Collision don't do that type of stuff in-house, but they might have a good source for it.

@shack I've used otoolesdustlessblasting.com

Husband and wife team that do everything from lawn furniture to entire cars. Ive used them a couple of times and always had great experience. They even have a lift and can do a car underneath while up in the air.

Last time I dropped parts off, there was several 40 parts sitting around waiting to be blasted.

@shack I too have been looking for recommendations, and basically striking out, so I intend to just try some place. I need to get some sliders blasted. I'll either take them to Top Coat off Glenwood, or ask the guys at a body shop in Fuquay I'm going to Monday (the owner is restoring a 78 FJ40).

I'm in Holly Springs so a few of these places are pretty close to me @little_joe . Let me know what that shop in Fuquay has to say.

I've watched a few of these dustless blasting videos that some of these guys share and some of them are using glass beads like this company. Dustless Blasting Raleigh NC

To me it looks like this pressure would just shred a hose or plastic connector if they were not careful. I guess you just have to trust them.

Typically when you bring something to get blasted, it's a bare metal part (or body), not a fully assembled and functional vehicle. It's pretty close to impossible to blast the entire underside of a vehicle and not affect a hose, line, or any of the wiring. Not to mention that if any line is rusted, its entirely possible that blasting it clean will create a hole.

I suggest you buy a needle scaler, or a small hand blaster from Harbor Freight, and get to work. It'll take you forever, but at least you can take the time that nothing is broken in the process.

I'd love to do it myself but I don't have a setup to run any air tools right now. My options at home are limited currently.

If no air tools, then use wire wheels on either angle grinders, or drills. Works just as well and more delicate too.

Yeah I think to @GLTHFJ60 's point, taking a running, assembled vehicle somewhere to have it blasted will either result in 1) tons of ancillary issues or 2) insane costs for them to dis/reassemble or to mask off.

This is the shop where I bought my skat blasting cabinet. His is a fj43. I chatted with him for a while. Sounded like a nice guy.

Which body shop are you talking about? I'm in Fuquay, and I have a '73 FJ40 that I'm going to need to have blasted.
