I just installed a Kenwood radio in my 80, all wiring is done, plugged it all in, it worked for one song then shut down. No power to radio or vehicle clock… I’ve checked the fuse on back of radio, good. Fuse in passenger compartment, good.

Any other ideas on what I might have done or can do to get power again?

Sometimes the head unit gets wired to the cigar lighter circuit. Might check that.

Unplug the factory amplifier behind the passenger side dash speaker. Then replace the DOME fuse that just blew.
Can you easily tell me how to get to the amp? I’ll start digging…

Thanks!!I

I think I figured out how to get into there… looking for fuse now

Remove glovebox and if I recall correctly, you can reach the plugs without removing anything else. I removed mine entirely because it is no longer needed. Here's what it looks like:

I’m guessing here… the app is the one behind the speaker?

Did you check the radio power wires for power at the radio? Also did you check the ground at the radio. I don't mean are they hooked up but do you have power and ground.
Before you go tearing into anything at all, start there. Find the bad circuit and diagnose that.

Great to see you on the 80’s forum, Catherine! 😆
Thanks Doc!! I love being here… finally!!
Just got my paws on a lovely 80 Series, Betty!!
She’s a fun one, not even a week back from SAS and we had driven back to CO to bring her home!
Already wheeled her and got a new blemish to be able to call her mine!

When you reach in there to unplug the amp don’t unplug the ECU by mistake!
Thanks Bob, I believe I pulled the correct plugs. Lol, they were the ones on the amp. 🤪

Looks like I figured it all out. Disconnected the amp and no more blown fuses. What a project… now to put the 4runner back together and sell it!! lol… LOVE MY NEW 80!
